Okay, now I know what I was thinking. I’m watching Phantom Thread. What is PTA without his mother? He is a father. He must protect his child from the worst of the world, which he never experienced. But still, he must protect.
Just saw this movie on Friday. My first PTA and second favorite movie of the year (after Sorry Baby). I saw Leo’s character as someone committed to the love for his daughter more than the love of a revolution. But isn’t a revolution just a bunch of deeply flawed, imperfectly committed people who are utterly human and who love and fight in messy, sometimes contradictory ways? There is no pure revolutionary, and there is no pure father or mother. There is love, pulled in too many directions, by all that comes with being human. And my take is PTA gave us THAT story, of a flawed revolution full of people who love others and the world in brutally messy ways.
