The Living Realm sounds intriguing, and I’m very curious about Transcription after your point about the audiobook making it click. The format really does change the whole experience of a book!
My favorite Jesmyn Ward is Salvage the Bones, but Men We Reaped made my ugly cry. Let Us Descend is excellent too! I can’t wait to hear which one you edge out as your favorite (I would say, similar to the Bluest Eye, Salvage is the one I’d read first. It’s her first).

Thrilled to know Fruit Fly lives up to it's reputation! I put it on hold last week and now I really can't wait to read it! Here's a question for the crew, I'm reading modern classics (last 100 years or so, I guess though it's loose) and so far I've read Lost Horizon, Lord of the Flies and East of Eden. Next up is 100 Years of Solitude. What non-white man reads should I include? Open to all types of books. I can't keep giving these old white dudes five stars on Goodreads (though East of Eden is a revelation). Thanks!
ugh I also tried Middlemarch earlier this year and hit a wall. I think it’s because I wiki’ed George Eliot and discovered an incredibly interesting life lived. Where is that book?
Love Bryan Washington! LOT is my favorite of his and one of my favorite books generally.
A lot of my friends have preferred Memorial but I’ll be sure to read Lot too!
